My name is Angelika and I am from Brunico, a small city in the North of Italy, but studying for my PhD-degree of environmental sciences at the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice, Italy.
Adriatic Sea or even Pattaya or Phuket. Therefore, I choose to do something socially more important than lying on a beach, just doing nothing and getting more and more bored – and my mum had the great idea that I could come to the Camillian Center for some weeks. First I thought that it might be strange, having all this kids around me, because I am not used to more than 200 at the same time. But when I arrived to the airport of Chiang Raj, they welcomed me so heartily that I couldn’t do else than affecting to them - even if I couldn’t understand anything they were saying to me or to others. Nevertheless, I tried to learn the most important words and phrases, and now, at the end of my holiday, I can proudly say that I am able to understand some words of a conversation! For the kids it was never a problem that I couldn’t understand them and vice versa – we communicated by signs and everybody was happy when the other understood the meaning. Before coming to the Camillian Social Center, I couldn’t understand my mum’s opinion, that children are the most beautiful gift, one can receive – now I know, what she meant. Every kid in the Center has a different story of life, different interests and different strengths, but everybody is accepted by the others as he or she is. I would like to thank those kids who changed completely my mind regarding the meaning of family, respect, satisfaction and happiness.
I have to thank Brother Gianni very, very much because he was the one who made my stay in the Camillian Social Center possible and took me around the villages the children come from. It was wonderful to see how great he is in managing everything regarding the kids’ welfare and how important those kids are for him.
Further, I want to thank the Fathers and the Sisters of this Center and also Anne and Glenn for let me be a part of this family. All of them give a part of themselves to educate the children in this center and I admire them, mostly for their generous behavior.
In conclusion I would say that I will return for sure to the Camillian Social Center of Chiang Rai and I would recommend to everybody to come here for having a new experience of how children can enrich everybody’s life.
